Conduct an assessment of the technical and information accessibility of public transport

Head of the Public Transport Policy Department D. Otgonjargal and officials met today with the Government's implementing agency, the General Department for the Development of Persons with Disabilities, and representatives of the Associations of Persons with Disabilities.

According to the National Statistics Committee of Mongolia, there are 111,228 people with disabilities living in Mongolia in 2023.

The government has included relevant goals and activities in policy documents such as the Mongolia’s long-term development policy “Vision-2050” and the Government’s Action Plan for 2020-2024, in order to increase the social participation of people with disabilities and create an accessible environment. This meeting was held as part of the assessment of the technical and information accessibility of public transport, and the delegation expressed its gratitude for the fact that 1,288 vehicles were fully equipped to ensure the right of people with disabilities to travel by public transport.

For example, 100% of the buses in service have voice announcements for visually and hearing impaired passengers and LED screens for route directions.

The technical specifications for the purchase of public transport vehicles have additional requirements regarding the conditions for the transportation of disabled people, so the buses purchased in recent years as part of the fleet renewal fully meet the conditions for transporting disabled passengers.

Representatives of the General Department of Development of Persons with Disabilities and the Association of Persons with Disabilities expressed their gratitude to public transport drivers for helping wheelchair users and lowering their designated platforms.
